A Rapid Development Framework for Microsoft Access

This is a tip from experience. It is always better to work in smaller chunks and deliver them as quickly as possible than it is to take weeks, months, or gulp… years to deliver the product.

The longer it takes to deliver, the less the customer will remember what they actually wanted.

The quicker you can deliver, the quicker the customer will see results and you can start building trust that you can accomplish things they need you to do.

Delivering in smaller chunks and in more regular periods also allows for more feedback as you deliver the product. Customers react well to what they can see and use. The longer and larger the footprint of your delivery, the further you’ll go off track if you’re missing the target.

So if you have a BIG project coming up, I recommend breaking it up into what you think you can do in one to two days that will deliver value for the customer and is something they can start using right away. Take some time to consider it, and don’t do a full estimate for a 3 month long project or more, but offer to build something within a day or two that will prove the concept to the customer.

There’s my 2 cents for the day! Let me know what you’ve experienced in terms of timelines and delivery schedules!

Oh, and yes, I forgot a title on yesterday’s message. Yesterday’s email subject should have read: Checking open forms and shutting down Access from code.
