Following up my message yesterday, I had big plans to get some more client work done, but as it happened, I wasn’t able to accomplish what I initially set out to do. Why?
A “perfect storm” in meteorology is when multiple weather patterns converge to create a catastrophically disastrous event. These convergences are usually unpredictable and cannot be anticipated.
For me, relatives visiting, my daughter’s promised birthday dinner raincheck, my wife being gone for the week to volunteer to help at a tornado battered ministry we support all worked together to change all my priorities around for the day.
This is not really a disaster, other than for my original plans, but I can definitely get anxious and frustrated when plans to complete client work go awry. What I need to focus on instead is that this “perfect storm” too shall pass. And in this case I can and should give myself permission to enjoy the storm.
Think of it as riding the wave. When the tsunami wave hits, try to ride it out and enjoy it if possible. When it subsides, get right back to what you were working on and prioritizing.
